Years ago we came across a farmhouse ruin, about 600 metres from the historic centre of Lusignac; after that followed five years of painstaking, loving restoration.

The Farmhouse “Font Losse”

Old farm properties in the Périgord have names instead of addresses. Our property is called “Font Losse”, was built in the 18th century by the owners of the Lusignac castle, extended in 1815 and at the end of the 19th century the separate barn was added. Together with local craftsmen we renovated and refurbished the farmhouse from top to bottom, taking great pains to retain the style and character of the original property and using only local materials such as local stone, limestone, clay tiles, lime plaster and oak beams.

Whereas the exterior has scarcely been touched, the interior is equipped with all home comforts: hot water, gas central heating, a washing machine and tumble dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, electric oven with 5 gas burners, telephone, satellite TV, stereo/CD player and wireless broadband internet.

Within its 215 m2 .the house sleeps up to eight plus a baby. The ground floor comprises the spacious lounge (65m2) with an open log fire, a large kitchen (33m2) with a huge dining table (seats 14) in front of an enormous ancient fireplace, a guest WC and a bedroom (27m2) with an open fire and en suite bathroom with a bath, shower, two washbasins and a WC.

On the first floor with its wooden floors and half-timbered walls there are three more bright and spacious bedrooms to sleep six with two double beds, two single beds and a cot, as well as a bathroom with shower and WC and another private bathroom with bathtub and washbasin.

Font Losse is surrounded by two large, partly covered patios, one sheltered patio facing southeast where the morning sun shines and one patio facing southwest (100m2) with a barbecue area and lily pond, overlooking a breath-taking panorama of hills and valleys. The house with its wine and rose creepers is situated in grounds of 6,000 m2 amidst an orchard of apple, plum, cherry, walnut and wild fig trees and blackberry bushes.

Sheltered from the wind and well-hidden lies the 14 x 5 metre long swimming pool, surrounded by palm trees and bamboo and a 200m2 partially covered sun terrace. It has an outdoor shower, a water-spouting diving board and a Caribbean-style pool house including its own WC and a kitchenette with a sink and fridge. In the basement of the pool house there is an original Finnish sauna made of solid Scandinavian timber, a shower and changing room.

The Dépendance "Font Losse"

The Dépendance is the conversion of the former sheds and grain stores, on the ground floor of the detached barn. It is a separate two-roomed apartment (45m2), sleeps two and has its own small patio.

The living room (25m2) has a Franklin fireplace and a kitchenette, the bedroom (12m2) a double bed. The spacious bathroom has a large bathtub, washbasin and WC.

The Dépendance is equipped with its own gas-fired central heating, hot water, washing machine, 2 hotplates, mini-oven with grill, refrigerator, TV, stereo/CD player, telephone and wireless broadband internet.

The Farmhouse Font Losse together with the Dépendance sleeps up to 10 and is the ideal place for families wanting to spend a vacation together. The Dépendance cannot be rented separately, only together with the farmhouse Font Losse.

Booking

The farmhouse and the Dépendance are completely furnished and equipped with all cooking and dining utensils. Guests do, however, need to bring their own bed linen and towels. For those staying more than one week, a two-hour cleaning service is provided every Saturday free of charge.

Although the pool is safeguarded with an alarm system we do assume that our tenants and their children are able to swim.

The deposit is 1/3 of the total rent. We request the payment of the remaining rent and also a deposit cheque for one week’s rent 30 days before the holiday date.

The weekly rental rate depends on the time of year and can be found in the rate list. Please ask for availability.
